Warren Buffett: Mega-giver

I’m sure you’ve heard about it by now, but Warren Buffet is giving loads of Berkshire Hathaway Class B shares to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation–somewhere around 40 billion dollars. That’s some serious giving, man. Buffet’s always been a pretty frugal dude, and realized (and realizes) that money can easily be one of the worst things someone can have. A lot of good is going to be done with that money, and that makes me feel proud to know that decent people exist in this world.

GM’s Fuel Protection Program vs. Progress

General Motors recently announced it’s Fuel Protection program that will rebate new buyers of certain GM vehicles if they pay more than $1.99 for a gallon of a gas. While it is pretty senseless to repeat what everyone else is saying about this, I figured I would throw in my two cents about the utter wastefulness of American culture.

Perhaps the only good that has come from the recent Bush-caused, high-gas-priced, unsteady economy is the incentive for Americans to begin cutting back on their resources–something we should have done years ago. Nonetheless, oil companies and car manufacturers continue to push against this helpful current. More and more disasters and crisises continue to happen leading Americans more and more towards limits and altruism. Yet I don’t think we are anywhere near where we should be. I seriously see us continuing in this good path towards becoming more resourcful, espicially with global warming frights and other Bush scares–but there are definitely oppositions on the other end. Oil companies ahve literally become the new “big brother” in the new millenium.

On further note, I am not against General Motors in anyway, but rather I just see it’s Fuel Protection program as a scam to continue jipping Americans out of their cash, since no one wants to drive anymore. Maybe instead of buying a new SUV or midsize sedan so you can drive all you want, you should consider looking into alternative fuel-based cars and passing your savings to organizations and companies that pursue these efforts. Ye, I realize GM is one of these companies, and I applaud that. But seriously, you can’t honestly look at this program and believe that oil companies have no part in it.

In case you were wondering, I hear Walmart has some killer sells on bikes (but why shouldn’t they, they’ve already took out thousands of small business in our towns).
